PROGRAM EVALUATION

KFL&A PREP & GAY MEN'S SEXUAL HEALTH CLINIC

The final major project for our Program Planning and Evaluation course was to design an evaluation plan for a local public health program. This included consulting the program contact, creating a program logic model, outlining the specific methods of our evaluation plan in terms of design, data collection, indicators, timelines, budget and knowledge exchange plan as well as propose potential recommendations for the organization. Using our course resources we identified an appropriate evaluation design and discussed the most effective data collection tools that would be most feasible for our organization. Given that our assigned public health program was in its infancy stages, we also consulted external resources to better inform how to plan a formative process evaluation. Completing such a robust assignment mandated collaboration and organization. In order to complete this task in a timely fashion, we divided the evaluation plan into smaller parts each of which was completed by an assigned group member. As a result, we were able to have our assignment done a week prior to the deadline thus providing us extra time to review and polish our evaluation plan prior to submission to ensure to utmost quality. This experience allowed me to put my knowledge of program evaluations into practice and understand some of the unanticipated challenges that can arise when conducting evaluations. I also gained experience working as part of a team to reach a common goal. These skills will allow me to plan and conduct program evaluations in the future to improve the quality and effectiveness of public health programs.

COMMUNICATION

803 Infographic - PTSD (Final).png

PTSD INFOGRAPHIC

One of the assignments we had to complete for the Public Health Systems in Canada class this semester was an infographic on a health policy issue in Canada. Alongside four other group members, we created an infographic on a Federal Framework for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) specifically for military and first responders. The purpose of the infographic was to communicate essential information about our assigned topic in a concise yet visually appealing way. This was accomplished using graphs, charts, icons and identifying key words related to PTSD in the military and first responders and about the proposed federal framework. This task strengthened my communication skills challenging me to use visuals rather than traditional narrative text to convey information. This ability to assume a more creative lens can be applied more broadly to the field of social marketing and would be valuable to community engagement particularly for diverse audiences.
